Lesson: 7 - Backdrops and Sprites in Scratch

Purpose : Students learn about Backdrop and Sprite controls.

Scratch 3.0

Curriculum Content 6.1) Backdrop (Stage), 6.2) Sprite (Object)

Prior knowledge

Students should know the various sections and controls in the Scratch window.

Exercises

Exercise:1


  1. Teacher should explain what is meant by sprite and backdrop? How will you insert a backdrop and sprite in various ways? Insert some backdrop and sprite. (Insert from library, Draw by paint tool, upload from local drive, Select from library by using surprise option).

  2. Insert a backdrop like a forest in which birds are sitting on the green grass.

  3. When I click the flag the background and costume of the sprite should change. Uploaded background and sprite would be better.

    1. Teachers should use the labels in the Scratch window so that children get used to it.
    2. Clarify the difference between Backdrop and Sprite.
    3. Teachers should try to tell a cartoon story in which they explain the sprites and backdrops that will form the story. (Example: A Dora story) .
