Lesson: 7 - Backdrops and Sprites in Scratch

Purpose : Students learn about Backdrop and Sprite controls.

Materials Required

Scratch 3.0

Prior knowledge

Students should know the various sections and controls in the Scratch window.

Exercise:1



  1. Teacher should explain what is meant by sprite and backdrop? How will you insert a backdrop and sprite? Insert a backdrop house or beach. In this add two sprites.


Exercise:2



  1. Insert a backdrop like a forest in which birds are sitting on the green grass.
  2. Exercise:3



    1. When I click the flag the background and costume of the sprite needs to change. Uploaded background and sprite would be better.

Teacher's Instruction
  1. Teachers should use the labels in the Scratch window so that children get used to it.
  2. Clarify the difference between Backdrop and Sprite.
  3. Teachers should try to tell a cartoon story in which they explain the sprites and backdrops that will form the story. (Example: A Dora story).
